Roundabout

I hate roundabouts.  I guess in theory they make sense, but from what I can tell they only work with small amounts of traffic, which doesn't really exist anywhere around here, where roundabouts are common.  Roundabouts assume drivers are:

  • familiar with the concept
  • going the speed limit
  • using signals and
  • obeying traffic laws
I still don't understand why there are two lanes, how are you supposed to get from one lane to the other while going around in a circle?

When I go to my auntie's house from work I have to go through this:

She loves it; I white-knuckle through it as safely as I can, fearing for safety.

It's still not as bad as the Magic Roundabout in England.

Il1

There are infinite symbols.  Why would anyone designing an alphabet make two letters that have a similar shape?   Add in the number 1, a capital I and lower case L and you're in real trouble.

Il1 should not exist.

The number 1 was probably around a lot longer than the English letters so it gets a free pass, whereas the letter are just shy of being one of the biggest mistakes in the English language.

Shower

What are some things you want from your bathtub?

  • a place to easily hold soap, shampoo and conditioner for at least one person. For two people that's a minimum of 6 items needing stowage. Additional items may include a razor, loofa, wash cloth, bathing salts.
  • traction for your feet so you don't fall.
  • the water to stay in the tub and not on the bathroom floor
  • consistently have the desirable temperature and pressure.
How many of things does your your shower do? Mine doesn't do any of these well.

  • The interior corners are rounded triangles that are usually too small for the bottle stored there. Storing on the exterior corners mean the items get knocked out when getting into the the tub or adjusting the curtain
  • most tubs are porcelain or plastic and usually very smooth and slick.  It's easy to fall especially with soapy water.
  • There is no way for the curtain to form a seal. I can pull it to the sides but usually it leaves a gap after water or I bump into the curtain
  • Most nozzles control the temperature and the pressure with one handle. These are two separate functions and should be separated. It's also very difficult to find the same temperature.
